| Being creative means that you are using a range of skills which help you come up with, and manipulate, new ideas. The popular view of creativity is that people are either born creative or
they are not. Experts such as Edward De Bono have proved conclusively that this widely held view is not correct. De Bono, and other educators such as Chris Brooks, Principal Educator of High Performance Learning, have been successfully teaching people to think more creatively for many years now. In fact, creative thinking skills are easy and fun to acquire. If your child is doing well at school and is looking for something extra, consider enrolling in a creative thinking course.
This can be particularly appropriate for gifted children who are bored with school. If you try to extend them by giving them more advanced work or getting them to skip grades, they will get out of step with their peers and this may lead to other problems, especially in their social lives. Providing such children with a wider range of skills and experiences is usually more productive in the longer term. Training in creativity skills in particular is a good idea because such skills can be
used in many areas of life.
