| Learned in the wrong way, maths will eventually become a nightmare.
The most common mistake students make is that they try to remember patterns and formulas instead of making sure that they understand the mathematical concepts. However, just remembering the patterns can work for a while, so learning maths the wrong way in grade 8 may not show up in the test marks for a year or so.
Because maths is a prerequisite for so many courses at university, it is imperative that problems are dealt with promptly. Definitely, do not allow your child to drop maths as a subject, or do a modified maths course, without talking to us first.
The key to being good at maths is to make sure you understand all the concepts as you go. We provide short courses on how to learn maths at all levels. We show our clients how to
make maths their easiest subject at school.
A final point - the maths done during the first 4 years at high school all comes together in the topic of calculus which is usually encountered early in year 12. Calculus is not dealt with very well by the standard school textbooks so, we recommend that your child have one or two lessons as soon as he/she encounters calculus at school - it will save your child many hours of work in this crucial year.
