By senior high school every student should be able to:
- read and comprehend quickly,
- set up and follow a regular study timetable from the beginning of each course,
- write coherent essays, and
- perform well in exams for all subjects, especially Mathematics and English.
If this is not the case, it is important to do something about it immediately, because the pressure of work steadily increases over the last two years of secondary education. Simply telling your child to
work harder will not usually solve the problem, because in most cases it is a lack of skills which is causing the problem, not a lack of motivation.
If you are not sure of how your child is progressing, book in for an assessment so we can provide
you with a clear understanding of your son or daughter's educational strengths and weaknesses. We will prepare a program to deal with any problem areas. We can also provide advice on subject choice.
We teach high powered learning techniques and strategies for effective and efficient study. We
also show students how to get better marks in every subject by doing less work.
Essentially it is easier to get an A than it is to get a C.
This is because if you get a C then you must be doing the wrong thing.
So to get an A, just learn how to do the right thing in the first place!
While we teach students how to excel in all subjects, we give particular attention to Mathematics and English. These are by far the two most important subjects for you to monitor because they require basic skills which are needed for other subjects.
- We teach techniques which makes Mathematics the easiest subject at school.
- English is the most sophisticated subject at matriculation level so we teach students the high powered analytical skills they need to be able to manage the scope and complexity of this subject. We also suggest that students have a lesson or two on Shakespeare so they learn to understand and appreciate the master of English literature.
If, by the first term in year 11, your child is only doing homework and not following a daily study timetable, then you can be sure that he or she is working the hard way. We find that most students are keen to learn study skills once they understand exactly what is involved. This is especially so when they find out that they can get better marks by doing less work when using the techniques we teach.
Our goal is to provide you with peace of mind about your child's education and employment prospects.
