By teaching High Performance thinking, learning and language skills we show people how to:
- excel at their education,
- overcome learning and language problems,
- develop their thinking power.
Our goal is to help people maximise their learning potential.
We Teach Learning
We teach people better ways of thinking so they can learn more effectively. To use the analogy of
computers, we help people improve their mental software. This applies whether we are teaching an 8 year old how to read, a university student how to pass exams, or a manager how to think more creatively.
There are three main things we focus on- mastery, micro-learning, and meta-learning:
- Mastery of a piece of knowledge means - knowing that you know it - in other words- being sure. We teach our clients to master each skill before tackling the next one. Both content and skills can be learned more quickly this way, and the person becomes more confident and motivated because uncertainty has been removed from the learning situation. Mastery is also an important skill to have at work. For example, a car mechanic who fixes people's brakes must fix them all, even a 99% success rate is too low. By teaching our clients the importance of mastery, and the techniques to attain mastery, we give them the ability to be high achievers throughout their education, and be successful when they enter the workforce.
- We use the term "micro-learning" to refer to situations where we are teaching individual thoughts - in other words, when we are teaching our clients what to think at one hundredth of a second. A good example of this is when we work with people who have problems with reading and spelling. These problems are usually a result of thinking individual thoughts in the wrong order and missing out some of the steps in the thinking process, such as checking the accuracy of the reading. This shows up as reversals of letters, missing out words and so on. It is generally quite easy to correct reading problems using micro-learning techniques because we check each individual step in the thinking process and correct it if necessary.
- Meta-learning means learning about learning. Whether we are teaching a 5 year old to read, or a postgraduate student how to use advanced information processing skills, we help our clients become consciously aware of the learning process - obviously we explain it in a manner which suits their maturity level. By teaching our clients how to learn in this way, they are able to learn all the other skills we teach them easily and quickly.
In the end it comes down to just two words - we show people how to try easier instead of trying harder.
