Poor  per·for·mance·  in  sci·ence·  or  hu·ma·ni·ties·  sub·jects·  in  ju·nior·  high  school  is  u·su·a·lly·  a  sign  of ^ poor  stu·dy·  skills , pro·blems·  with  rea·ding·  or  maths , or  more  ba·sic·  di·ffi·cul·ties·  with  lear·ning· . Ex·tra·  co·a·ching·  in  the  par·ti·cu·lar·  sub·ject· , wi·thout·  first  a·ddre·ssing·  the  un·der·ly·ing·  cau·ses· , will  not  ge·ne·ra·lly·  solve  the  pro·blem· . While  there ^ may  be  some ^ im·prove·ment· ^ while  a  coach  in  the  par·ti·cu·lar·  sub·ject·  is  be·ing·  em·ployed· , marks  may  well  drop  a·gain· ^ as  soon  as  the  stu·dent·  is  left  to  do ^ it  a·lone· .

As  a  pa·rent·  you ^ should ^ be  ve·ry·  con·cerned·  if  your  child  is  not  a·ble·  to  work  in·de·pen·dent·ly· , and  get  good  marks  in  all  sub·jects·  by  year  10, be·cause·  it  is  at  this  time  that  schools  de·cide·  which  sub·jects·  can  be  cho·sen·  for  years  11 and  12.

Sci·ence·  Sub·jects· 

Un·less·  your  child  is  ab·so·lute·ly·  cer·tain·  a·bout·  a  ca·reer·  path , he  or  she  should ^ stu·dy·  sub·jects·  in  se·nior·  high  school  which  will  pro·vide·  max·i·mum·  choice  for  cour·ses·  at  ter·tia·ry·  le·vel· . In  terms  of ^ sci·ence·  sub·jects·  that  may  mean  stu·dy·ing·  both  phy·sics·  and  che·mi·stry· . We  strong·ly·  re·co·mmend·  that  you ^ have  your  child  a·ssessed·  by  us  be·fore·  dro·pping·  ei·ther·  of ^ these  sub·jects· , be·cause·  once ^ they ^ have  been  dropped  they ^ are  ve·ry·  di·ffi·cult·  to  pick  up  a·gain· ^ la·ter· .

En·glish· ^ and  the  Hu·ma·ni·ties· 

Stu·dents·  who ^ per·form·  poor·ly·  in  lan·guage·  rich  sub·jects·  such  as  Hi·sto·ry· , Ge·o·gra·phy·  and  En·glish· ^ will  o·ften·  blame  them·selves·  be·cause·  they ^ don't  stu·dy·  hard  e·nough· ^. Clo·ser·  ex·a·mi·na·tion·  of ^ their ^ work  ha·bits·  u·su·a·lly·  shows  that  the  real  pro·blem·  is  that  they ^ do ^ not  have  good  stu·dy·  skills . This  is  u·su·a·lly·  be·cause·  they ^ don't  have  a  co·he·rent·  stra·te·gy·  for  lear·ning·  such  sub·jects· .

Poor  Tea·ching· 

Some ^ stru·ggling·  stu·dents·  com·plain·  that  they ^ have  a  poor  tea·cher· . This  may  be  true  but  it  is  no  ex·cuse·  for  poor  marks . The  so·lu·tion·  to  the  pro·blem·  is  to  have  us  teach  your  child  in·de·pen·dent·  stu·dy·  skills . Be  a·ware·  that  by  the  end  of ^ ju·nior·  high  school , stu·dents·  are  ex·pec·ted·  to  be  a·ble·  to  learn  re·la·ti·vely·  in·de·pen·dent·ly·  of ^ their ^ tea·chers· , so  that  they ^ can  cope  with  the  work  load  in  se·nior·  high  school , and  la·ter·  on  du·ring·  their ^ ter·tia·ry·  e·du·ca·tion· .
